Commercial junk removal in Winnipeg: a facility manager’s checklist

Before you book your next clear-out, run through this list. It saves time, money and landfill space.

A checklist for booking a commercial clear-out

A good clear-out is mostly planning. Run through this checklist before you book, and the day itself gets a lot easier.

1. Know what’s going

Walk the space and list the main waste streams: crates, pallets, packaging, furniture, fixtures, scrap metal, debris. Photos help whoever is quoting.

2. Flag the heavy and awkward items

Anything that needs a forklift, a pallet jack or extra hands should be called out up front, so the right truck and crew show up.

3. Check access

  • Loading dock hours and height
  • Elevator access and size
  • Parking for a large truck
  • Any security or sign-in rules

4. Pick one-time or recurring

A one-off clear-out suits a move or a refit. If crates, pallets or packaging build up every week, a standing order is usually cheaper and less hassle.

5. Sort out the paperwork early

If your company needs a PO, get it raised before the job. Ask for quotes and invoices that reference it.

6. Ask where it goes

Not every hauler can tell you. Ask what gets reused, what gets recycled and what goes to landfill. Better still, ask for a written record.

7. Plan for reporting

If you report on sustainability, ask for weights and destinations by material, and a year-end certificate of diversion.

8. Book a site assessment

For bigger jobs, a free site assessment means an accurate quote and fewer surprises on the day.
